Editing and Post-Production

With production days out of the way, these last few weeks I have been able to focus on editing all my gained footage and audio, as well as completing call sheets and compensating actors and crew members.

In regards to compensating actors and crew members, they all had money sent via bank transfer, a week after filming. This option of payment was the most convienient in speed and ease for actors. Actors, such as Abbie, were compensated more, due to travelling further a field. For crew members, they were compensated with gifts (such as alcohol and skincare sets), as they were older and had closer relation to me personally.

After looking over all the footage and audio, and being happy with the result of all the recordings, I began composing a short rough cut of Whispering Walls.

When I opened Premier Pro, I started with upolading the audio recordings. However, when listening to them, the surroundings of the sound made the voice of the actors sound similar to a wide echo. Therefore, I went onto Adobe Audition, to edit the sound. When using this software, I changed the software to having a 'voicemail/'phone call' effect, which made the speech a lot clear. I saved this copy of the audio, while keeping the original recording aswell. This is because, should another audio edit need to be made, I can use the original.

For the video footage, I began by compromising footage in script order, up to the last 3 pages. When chronologically partnering these videos together, as much as shot types and sizes were considered during filming, some images were pulled closer or further away. As well as the videos themselves, some videos had acting movements that were too fast. In which case, the speed of these were shortened to between 50-90%, depending on stunts and lighting.

Moving forward into developing a proper edit, I know that I need to consider the exposure on the middle section of the script, due to the darkness from the shadows and the amount of LED lights, as well as the colour grading and the musical additions (instrumental music).
